Mit der Motoryacht "Granma" setzten Fidel Castro und 82 weitere Revolutionäre am 25.11.1956 von Mexico nach Cuba über, um den Diktator Batista zu stürzen. Mit an Bord waren u.a. Che Guevara und Fidel´s Bruder Raul Castro. Die Weltfestspiele standen unter dem Motto: "Für antiimperialistische Solidarität, Frieden und Freundschaft". 18.500 Jugendliche aus 145 Ländern nahmen teil, darunter 20
